Just because there is an over-abundance of ads doesn't necessarily mean that we are so overly sensitive to them that they brain wash us. Ads are usually the easiest way to get word out of a new product. Ads are also a freer way of demonstrating what the product is about.
In this sense, though, yes, they could be harmful.
Ads are what you make them. It you take the ad as saying you're not beautiful enough without their product, then that's how you take it. It's probably some fault within yourself, though, if that's what you believe.

I absolutely agree. Ads are what you want them to be. You can either let them get in your face and bother you or simply ignore them and move on with your life. However, for some people certain ads can hit a soft spot, meaning that they reflect on a personal event or object/emotion in our life.
