False Advertisements
In reality, every advertisement out there is somewhat false. They all claim to make the buyer better in some way, whether it be physically or emotionally. In some cases this might result in the truth, but in most it doesn't. The thing is, people know this about advertisements but they still buy those products. So the advertisement agencies must be doing something right. It may mean most people have low self-esteem, or they have no other choice. Is there really a product out there that doesn't have some sort of over-the-top, corny ad in the television or magazines? So yes they may be false, but are they really causing harm? No, unless your one of those gullible people who doesn't realize promoting products has been done this way for decades.

I couldn't agree with you more! However when I wonder why people fall for such false advertisements I think that there are some people that just don't listen at all. Myself in fact when I see advertisements, honestly at least 80% of the time I just do my own thing because usually people don't jump in the car after seeing a commercial and go get the product they see it and then usually move on and forget about it. When people really buy a product it is off of their own instict. Your at the store it looks good maybe even the info on it appeals to you but thats what they look at. But you're completely right ad agencies must be doing something right or else why are so many businesses not going out of business? something must have caught their eyes. Commercials and other ads really are corny so I guess the annoying things are what gets stuck in our minds! lol.
I agree. Companies advertise their products the way they do for one reason - to make money. If these advertisements, fallacious or not, weren't making companies the profits they expect, they wouldn't put the time and money into it. Even though most people know that the new diet pill isn't going to turn them into what the commercial shows or that the new makeup isn't going to make you look completely flawless like the girl in the magazine, it still draws people in. It makes people want to go out there and get whatever it is that's going to make them better. I think this can be harmful to a certain extent. Most of us know better than to always believe what we hear or see, but we buy into it anyway.
